ZeRo4 and rapha joins SK Gaming

Famous German based multigaming organisation SK Gaming announced today their return to the Quake 3 scene.

Their ranks joins one of the most accomplished Quake 3 player of all time, American John "ZeRo4" Hill and one of the most promising new school players Shane "rapha" Hendrixson.

"I feel proud to see one of the first World Cyber Games champions to become a part of the SK Gaming legacy," says SK Gaming Managing Director, Alexander "TheSlaSH" Mueller. "ZeRo4 is a player with the potential to influence how a game is played for years to come and one of the most accomplished in Quake 3's history.

We believe in nurturing talent, which is why we also set our sights on a rough diamond like rapha. I think that a Quake 3 legend like ZeRo4 could help rapha realise his full potential as a player."

Both players will attend as many Quake 3 events as they can in 2008, hopefully starting with the ESWC Masters of Paris.

Carmac Column: Undulating Newbies

Esreality brought attention to a article written by carmac.
said ...

Competitive gaming is on a downward spiral. Not long ago, games like DotA or World of Warcraft were only seen as strictly recreational. Now they are the future of esports.

Is Carmac writing in his newest Column on sk-gaming.

Furthermore

At the same time, 'ultimate esports' projects like Challenge ProMode Arena for Quake 3 have proven to be failures with respect to attracting players. Warcraft 3 and Counter-Strike lose players to WoW, DotA and whatever else is there to appeal to the lowest common denominator.

The dumbification of competitive gaming wins.

Why? Swing over to sk-gaming and read if you like the whole story behind Carmac´s message.

Halo 3

OK so now I have a fair amount of multiplayer played. There is many dislikes and likes about halo 3 multiplayer. I think the game plays great and runs very smooth and is very fun. However they didn’t make a separate playlist for just slayer or team slayer so often your playing games like shotty sniper or swords when you just want to play slayer. I found out that playing a fps game on a console is a heck of alot harder then it is on pc. If someone comes up behind you its almost impossible to turn around and react quick enough to catch up to them so its almost a automatic death.

Interview about the new upcoming quake arena

Id Software's Executive Producer Marty Stratton sits down with Gameriot.com's Rod "Slasher" Breslau about the new Quake game as well as QuakeZero.

Here is a snippet

said ...

Gameriot: So the next Quake game will be multiplayer focused?

Marty Stratton: It will be multiplayer focused from a gameplay perspective. We want to make sure that individual players can receive that 'multiplayer' experience, though. Both QuakeZero and the new Arena game will have bots. We actually have an unbelievable bot programmer John Dean who almost single-handedly did all the bot work for ET:QW along with Jan Paul. The response from the bots for ET:QW has been great and that's for an extremely complicated game where bots have to figure out many different things at once. I'm really excited on having them work on the new Quake Arena bots. They'll be able to do some cool stuff and John Paul is the guy that originally did the Quake 3 Arena bots. We have those guys in house, and I think there's some really cool stuff we can do with bots.

Bungie Interview

There is an interview with the Bungie developers Frank O’Connor and Brian Jarrard over at RewiredMind.

You can read the full interview here or there is a snippet below:

How do you feel about the feedback you got from the Beta, and how has it influenced changes to the final game?

FRANK: There were a number of changes which we already had in mind before the Beta came out – but which we didn’t have time to implement before it launched. Thankfully, a lot of the feedback reinforced that these changes were going to be the right ones so we were very pleased from that perspective.

BRIAN: However, there were a load of unforeseen things which we were able to glean from the Beta – we saw players expose different exploits such as managing to get outside of maps, things that we’ve been able to now eliminate thanks to viewing the data.

How much pressure do you feel working on Halo 3, giving that the world is expecting the biggest videogame of all time?

BRIAN: We are of course aware of the pressure on this game. But, to be honest, we mostly keep our heads down and try not to worry about it.

FRANK: It’s all about making the best possible game that we can and we have more than enough internal pressure to be getting on with! Most of all, we just don’t want to let anybody down - be that ourselves, each other or the game’s fans.

RAGE, id's New Title & Web-Based Q3 Game

said ...

id Software didn't let the huge crowd on hand for their QuakeCon 2007 press conference this year. id Software's CEO Todd Hollenshead first came on stage announcing id's new game "RAGE" along with a flurry of other exciting things to come. The press conference was followed by John Carmack's annual keynote. He discussed id's upcoming game, his love for developing mobile gaming technology, the problems with porting games to consoles such as the PS3, and many other topics. Full coverage of these two events along with video will be coming shortly on QuakeUnity.

* id Software's next title will be named "Rage". It will be a post-apocalyptic style FPS/racing game. The game will most likely occupy 2 DVDs or 1 Blueray disc.

* id had originally been working on a title codenamed Darkness, an island survival horror game but then decided against the game. It was under development for over a year until work was halted.

* A QUAKE Arcade game will be coming to the XBOX360.

* Quake0, a free web-based version of Quake3 is currently in development. The title will be supported by advertising.

* id Software has hired a second team of developers to work on the "Quake 0" title along with other projects.

* Enemy Territory: Quake Wars will be released on October 2nd, 2007.

* A Wolfenstein movie is currently in development.

* All id Software titles will be available on Steam for download.

I expected some big news, but nothing like this. These announcements are just amazing. I'll have more coverage as the night goes on.
